The retail load for
November 2009 was 3.9% lower than the retail energy load in November 2008. The actual peak system demand
was 317 MW, compared to actual peak system demand of 324 MW last year. Sales to wholesale parties, losses
and energy returns represented 25.9% of the total energy requirement as compared to 25.5% for last year. Sales
to wholesale parties accounted for 11,283 MWh, which included 3,213 MWh in sales to the ISO. Energy returns
were 24,150 MWh and 5,545 MWh were attributed to losses 3.92%. Green power supplied approximately 23.7% of
our retail energy requirements.
The City's generation resources were available during the month as follows:
UNIT OPERATION
IPP: IPP units 1 and 2 operated at 85% capacity factor for the month.
PVNGS: Palo Verde units 1 and 3 operated at 70% capacity factor for the month. Unit 2 is on scheduled
refueling outage from 10/5/09— 12/02/09.
SONGS: SONGS unit 3 operated at 100% capacity factor for the month. Unit 2 is on scheduled outage for
generator replacement through 1/27/10.
Deseret: The Bonanza unit operated at 83% capacity factor for the month due to unavailable transmission
capacity, bag house issues, loss of mill.
Hunter unit 2 operated at 96% capacity factor for the month due to opacity, SO3 skid failure,
transmission constraints, valve test, mill maintenance, fuel control problems, and loss of mill.
Hoover: Hoover operated at 66% availability for the month due to low water elevation in Lake Mead and
various scheduled unit maintenances.
Springs: Springs units 1, 2, 3 and 4 availability was 100% for the month.
RERC: RERC Units 1 and 2 availability was 100% for the month.
Salton Sea: The Salton Sea units operated at 99% capacity factor for the month.
TRANSMISSION:
Pacific DC: The line was de-rated due to repairs to damage caused by the Station Fire through April 2010.
Attached are the charts of daily peaks and the graphical comparison of demand and energy supplied from each
resource for the months of November 2009 and November 2008.
AA
Attachments
cc: Bradley J.
