RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Public Utilities recognize Riverside Public Utilities Water Utility Field employees and Water Pipefitters. BACKGROUND: On September 23, 2015, 61 st District Assembly member Jose Medina presented to RPU staff Member's Resolution No. 1773, recognizing the work of our water field employees and recognizing September 23, 2015 as Water Pipe Fitter Appreciation Day in the 61St Assembly District. Text of the Resolution follows: 1 Riverside Public Utilities Water Pipe Fitters I - Whereas, California is currently experiencing severe drought conditions, '~ making water use and conservation an even greater priority for the State; _..._ and Whereas, Leaky or broken pipes can result in the loss of insurmountable gallons of water, making maintenance and oversight even more important; and Whereas, Essential to every community that provides water to its residents, ,- the occupation of a water pipe fitter is one steeped in public service and continues to thrive on the traditions of apprentiship; and Whereas, Water pipe fitters must possess extensive knowledge of city and county infrastructure as well as skills and knowledge necessary to select the most appropriate materials needed for each infrastructure class; and Whereas, the profession requires the commitment to maintaining our water infrastructure twenty four hours a day and 365 days out of the year, often in dangerously wet and subterranean environments, and provides an invaluable service to communities throughout the State of California; now, therefore, be it Resolved by Assembly Member Jose Medina, That he draws special attention of the public to the many water pipe fitters who work diligently to keep water flowing through the State's pipelines, and into homes and businesses throughout the cities, and recognizes September 23, 2015, as Water Pipe Fitter Appreciation Day in the 61St Assembly District.
