W A i f R E x E R G v i 1 f E <br /> RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: November 18, 2011 <br /> ITEM NO: 7 <br /> SUBJECT: CONSTRUCTION OF THE COMMERCE STREET 8-INCH WATER DISTRIBUTION <br /> MAIN REPLACEMENT PROJECT--WORK ORDER NO. 1111813 <br /> ISSUE: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities consider approval of the capital expenditure in the amount of $195,000 <br /> to construct the Commerce Street 8-Inch Water Distribution Main Replacement Project, <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities approve the capital expenditure of $195,000 for Work Order No. <br /> 1111813, which includes all design, construction and construction contingency costs for the Commerce <br /> Street 8-Inch Water Distribution Main Replacement Project. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The construction of the Commerce Street 8-Inch Water Distribution Main Replacement Project is part of <br /> the on-going water main replacement program. The existing 8-inch Matheson Steel pipeline is 96 years <br /> old. The work will entail the construction of approximately 380 linear feet of 8-inch ductile iron pipe, one <br /> (1) fire hydrant and reconnect to one (1) existing water service within Commerce Street between <br /> University Avenue and Mission Inn Avenue (Attachment 1). The work identified will be constructed by the <br /> Water Division's field forces. <br /> Once the new water pipelines are installed, Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) will be responsible for <br /> standard trench repaving per the Public Works standard. Near the end of pipeline construction, staff will <br /> solicit paving bids for paving the trench area through the Public Utilities Paving Contractor's Panel. A <br /> budgetary estimate for the paving work has been included in this authorization. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> The total capital expenditure for Work Order No. 1111813 is estimated to be $195,000 which includes all <br /> design, construction, and construction contingency costs necessary to perform the work, as summarized <br /> in the following table: <br /> Description — New Construction Cost Percent of Total <br /> Design $25,000 12.8% <br /> Construction (City Forces) $85,000 43.6% <br /> Paving (Contractor Panel) $62,000 31.8% <br /> Geotechnical/Survey/Potholes $7,000 3.6% <br /> Construction Contingency $10,000 5.1% <br /> Contract Management/inspection (Paving) $6,000 3.1% <br /> Work Order Total $195,000 100% <br />
