WAf { R ENERGY 1, rI <br /> Mkr!!!!1 RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> PUBLIC U T I L I T I E S <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: September 16, 2011 <br /> ITEM NO: 10 <br /> SUBJECT: CANYON CREST CABLE REPLACEMENT PROJECT - WORK ORDER NO. <br /> 11 08341 <br /> ISSUE: <br /> Board of Public Utilities approval is requested for Work Order No. 1108341. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities approve the estimated capital expenditure of$1,052,000 for the Canyon <br /> Crest Cable Replacement Project which will replace transformers and failing underground infrastructure <br /> in the Canyon Creek Apartments area. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) has experienced reliability issues in the Canyon Crest area due to the <br /> high failure rate of cable-in-conduit infrastructure. The Canyon Crest Cable Replacement Project <br /> includes the replacement of various underground utilities in an effort to increase reliability in this area, <br /> and is representative of RPU's effort to replace troublesome cable-in-conduit infrastructure throughout <br /> the City. The proposed project involves the placement of 28 pad-mounted transformers and the <br /> installation of 12,552 feet of new underground cable which will replace failing cable-in-conduit <br /> infrastructure. <br /> The electrical engineering was performed by Riverside Public Utilities. Electrical work will be performed <br /> by RPU field forces and contract crews. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> The total estimated cost for Work Order No. 1108341 is $1,052,000. Funds are budgeted and available <br /> for this project in the Cable Replacement Account No. 6130000-470635. <br /> Prepared by: Stephen H.
