RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Public Utilities approve the estimated capital expenditure of$1,052,000 for the Canyon Crest Cable Replacement Project which will replace transformers and failing underground infrastructure in the Canyon Creek Apartments area. BACKGROUND: Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) has experienced reliability issues in the Canyon Crest area due to the high failure rate of cable-in-conduit infrastructure. The Canyon Crest Cable Replacement Project includes the replacement of various underground utilities in an effort to increase reliability in this area, and is representative of RPU's effort to replace troublesome cable-in-conduit infrastructure throughout the City. The proposed project involves the placement of 28 pad-mounted transformers and the installation of 12,552 feet of new underground cable which will replace failing cable-in-conduit infrastructure. The electrical engineering was performed by Riverside Public Utilities. Electrical work will be performed by RPU field forces and contract crews. FISCAL IMPACT: The total estimated cost for Work Order No. 1108341 is $1,052,000. Funds are budgeted and available for this project in the Cable Replacement Account No. 6130000-470635.
