Riverside Public Utilities is a Department of the City of Riverside, a <br /> California Charter City, governed by the Board of Public Utilities and the Riverside City Council. Riverside <br /> provides both electric and water retail service to its customer/owners. Riverside owns and operates a <br /> vertically integrated electric system that was initially constructed in 1895, and was among the first of eight <br /> municipally-owned electric systems in the State of California. Riverside is a participant in several joint <br /> transmission and generation projects developed, financed, constructed and operated by the Southern <br /> California Public Power Authority(SCPPA) and the Intermountain Power Agency. Riverside has a minority <br /> ownership interest in the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station and owns, financed, and operates 268 <br /> megawatts of gas-fired generation facilities. Riverside serves 107,000 retail meters within its 81.5 mile <br /> service territory, has annual electric system revenues of approximately$300 million, with a system peak of <br /> 610 megawatts. <br /> Riverside also owns, operates and maintains a municipal water system, established in 1913, and provides <br /> potable and non-potable water services. Riverside's groundwater rights in local basins provides for one <br /> hundred percent of its retail water demand.
