W A T E R E#4 E R G Y 4 1 4 E RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES Board Memorandum PUBLIC UTILITIES BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: August 5, 2011 ITEM NO: 4 SUBJECT: REPLACEMENT OF DETERIORATED SUBSTRUCTURE - WORK ORDER NO. 1120275 ISSUE: Board of Public Utilities approval is requested for Work Order No. 1120275. RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Public Utilities approve the estimated capital expenditure of$76,141 for Work Order No. 1120275 to replace one deteriorated manhole. BACKGROUND: Manhole M351 was installed in 1966 in the alley between 12th and 13th Streets. A recent inspection determined that M351 is seriously deteriorated and the ceiling and walls are structurally unstable. The manhole contains 12 kV cables and equipment and fiber optic cables. The scope of work includes replacement of the existing manhole with a precast panel vault in the same location with the existing 12 kV and fiber optics cables protected in place. Engineering was performed by the General Order(GO) 165 Consultants' Panel and all construction work including trenching,conduits,and other infrastructure work will be performed by contract crews from the Contractors' Panel. FISCAL IMPACT: The capital expenditure for the project is estimated to be $76,141 and includes all construction, contingencies, construction management, inspection and design. The breakdown is as follows: Percent of Total Contract Construction— Sub-Structures $58,038 76.22% Consultant Engineering Panel— Design $12,300 16.15% Contingency, including change order authorization $5,803 7.63% Total $76,141 100% Funds are budgeted and available for construction of this project in the GO 165 Line Rebuilds Account No. 6130000-470623.
