W A T E R E N E R G Y L I rr <br /> RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> P U B L I C U T I L I T I E 5 <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: July 15, 2011 <br /> ITEM NO: 6 <br /> SUBJECT: REPLACEMENT OF DETERIORATED MANHOLE AND ASSOCIATED CABLE AND <br /> EQUIPMENT WORK ORDER NO. 1111434. <br /> ISSUE: <br /> Board of Public Utilities approval is requested for Work Order No. 1111434. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities approve the estimated capital expenditure of$303,045 for Work Order No. <br /> 1111434 to replace one deteriorated manhole and associated cable and equipment. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Manhole M750 was installed in 1970 in Madison Street at Orchard Street. An inspection determined that <br /> M750 is seriously deteriorated and the ceiling and walls are structurally unstable. The manhole contains a <br /> number of 12kV cables that serve the area, as well as a 1968 vintage oil switch in an adjacent vault. <br /> The scope of the work involves the replacement of all of the antiquated(40 plus years old)underground12kV <br /> distribution cable in Madison Street between the 91 Freeway and Mt. Vernon Street and in Orchard Street <br /> between Madison Street and Cortez Street. Approximately 3,200 circuit feet of underground electrical cable; <br /> replacement of manhole M750; removal of the oil switch; and removal of a submersible transformer. This <br /> equipment will be replaced with a standard pad mounted switch and transformer in existing right-of-way.The <br /> pad-mounted equipment with enclosures will be installed with consideration given to the surrounding <br /> aesthetics. <br /> Engineering was performed by the General Order (GO) 165 Engineering panel and construction will be <br /> performed by City and contractor crews from the Contractors' Panel. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> The total project cost is estimated at$303,045.
