W A F E R E N E R G Y L I F E <br /> RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> P U B L IBC U T I L I T I E S <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: July 1, 2011 <br /> ITEM NO: 11 <br /> SUBJECT: RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES 2009-2012 THREE-YEAR STRATEGIC GOALS — <br /> UPDATE FROM JUNE 10, 2011 PUBLIC UTILITIES MANAGEMENT STRATEGIC <br /> PLANNING RETREAT <br /> ISSUE: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities receive an update on the recently held strategic planning retreat regarding <br /> the existing three-year strategic planning goals and objectives. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities receive and file the updated Strategic Plan Three Year Goals and the Six- <br /> Month Strategic Objectives for the period ending January 15, 2012. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Riverside Public Utilities has performed strategic planning for over decade.The Utility has a set of long-term <br /> goals developed in 2008 that were created for implementation over a ten-year time horizon. In addition, the <br /> Utility develops three-year goals in order to meet the longer term goals. Executive and senior management <br /> participated in a strategic planning retreat on June 10, 2011. At that time, the five three-year goals were <br /> reviewed and updated. Fallow-up sessions are held every six months to ensure the goals are still appropriate <br /> and that objectives are set so staff can meet these goals. <br /> In order to monitor the Public Utilities'efforts towards meeting these goals,a Six-Month Strategic Objectives <br /> document is created as a detailed work plan to track efforts and accomplishments over the coming months to <br /> meet these goals. A summary of the efforts to meet the Six-Month Strategic Objectives is provided to the <br /> Board on a monthly basis. <br /> The next retreat is scheduled for January 20, 2012 which will set new three-near goals and will include both <br /> the Board of Public Utilities' members and the Public Uti[ities' executive and senior management. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> There is no fiscal impact associated with this update. <br /> Approved by: David H.
