L3W& RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES Board Memorandum PUBLIC UTILIF1ES BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: June 3, 2011 ITEM NO: 3 SUBJECT: REPLACEMENT OF DETERIORATED OIL SWITCHES AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT-WORK ORDER NOS. 1117665 AND 1117666 ISSUE: Board of Public Utilities approval is requested for Work Order Nos. 1117665 and 9117666. RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Public Utilities approve the estimated capital expenditure of $250,000 for Work Order No. 1117665 and $200,000 for Work Order No. 1117666 to replace deteriorated oil switches, as well as associated underground equipment with new pad mounted equipment. BACKGROUND: During routine troubleshooting for an outage event at Springs Substation, crews discovered two below grade oil switches were severely deteriorated due to corrosion and they could not be operated safely. These switches were immediately placed in an "out of service" status until they could be replaced. The project includes: • Installation of one pad mounted switch to replace deteriorated oil switch OS3-110; • Installation of one pad mounted switch to replace deteriorated oil switch OS3-108; • Installation of three pad mounted junction cabinets to replace load break junctions; and • Installation of two pad mounted transformers to replace a BURD transformers. Riverside Public Utilities staff has completed engineering and contract forces will perform construction. FISCAL IMPACT: The total project cost is estimated at $450,000. The breakdown is as follows: City Design $ 10 ,000 Construction of Structures and Conduit $217,500 Construction of Cabling & Equipment $222,500 Total $450,000 Funds are budgeted and available for this project in the Line Rebuilds Account No. 5130000-470603.
