L3W& RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> PUBLIC UTILIF1ES <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: June 3, 2011 <br /> ITEM NO: 3 <br /> SUBJECT: REPLACEMENT OF DETERIORATED OIL SWITCHES AND ASSOCIATED <br /> EQUIPMENT-WORK ORDER NOS. 1117665 AND 1117666 <br /> ISSUE: <br /> Board of Public Utilities approval is requested for Work Order Nos. 1117665 and 9117666. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities approve the estimated capital expenditure of $250,000 for Work Order <br /> No. 1117665 and $200,000 for Work Order No. 1117666 to replace deteriorated oil switches, as well as <br /> associated underground equipment with new pad mounted equipment. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> During routine troubleshooting for an outage event at Springs Substation, crews discovered two below <br /> grade oil switches were severely deteriorated due to corrosion and they could not be operated safely. <br /> These switches were immediately placed in an "out of service" status until they could be replaced. <br /> The project includes: <br /> • Installation of one pad mounted switch to replace deteriorated oil switch OS3-110; <br /> • Installation of one pad mounted switch to replace deteriorated oil switch OS3-108; <br /> • Installation of three pad mounted junction cabinets to replace load break junctions; and <br /> • Installation of two pad mounted transformers to replace a BURD transformers. <br /> Riverside Public Utilities staff has completed engineering and contract forces will perform construction. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> The total project cost is estimated at $450,000. The breakdown is as follows: <br /> City Design $ 10 ,000 <br /> Construction of Structures and Conduit $217,500 <br /> Construction of Cabling & Equipment $222,500 <br /> Total $450,000 <br /> Funds are budgeted and available for this project in the Line Rebuilds Account No. 5130000-470603. <br />
