- RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> PLl5LTC UT .1LIT1FS <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: May 6, 2011 <br /> ITEM NO: 12 <br /> SUBJECT: OVERHEAD TO UNDERGROUND CONVERSION AND STREET LIGHTING FOR <br /> PUBLIC WORKS STREET IMPROVEMENT PROJECT ON JURUPA AVENUE <br /> WORK ORDER NOS. 1010914 AND 1015057 <br /> ISSUE: <br /> Board of Public Utilities approval is requested for Work Order Nos. 1010914 and 1015057. <br /> RECOMMENDATIONS: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities: <br /> 1. Approve the estimated capital expenditure of $550,000 for Work Order No. 1010914 to install <br /> underground utilities and remove overhead facilities on Jurupa Avenue from Rutland Avenue to <br /> Van Buren Boulevard; and <br /> 2. Approve the estimated capital expenditure of $150,000 for Work Order No. 1015057 to install <br /> 17 street lights along Jurupa Avenue from Rutland Avenue to the Hole Lake culvert crossing. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> On Tuesday, April 12, 2011, the Public Works Department opened bids for the second phase of a street <br /> improvement project on Jurupa Avenue from about 600 feet westerly of Van Buren Boulevard to Rutland <br /> Avenue. The first phase of this project involved extending Jurupa Avenue approximately 600 feet <br /> westerly from Van Buren Boulevard and was completed in early 2010. The second phase of the work <br /> will involve extending Jurupa Avenue westerly to Bradford Street and constructing street improvements <br /> along the existing segment of Jurupa Avenue between Bradford Street and Rutland Avenue. The work <br /> will generally entail the construction of new curb, gutter, sidewalk, medians, asphalt pavement, and <br /> various underground utilities. <br /> Furthermore, the scope of the project includes the installation of 18,881 feet of new conduit, underground <br /> cabling, substructures, and removal of overhead facilities. The electrical engineering was performed by <br /> Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) staff. All civil work including trenching, conduits, vaults and other <br /> infrastructure work will be performed by the contractor. Electrical work will be performed by RPU field <br /> forces. Construction will be coordinated with the overall Public Works project. <br /> The three responsive bids received by the Public Works Department, and the respective electric item <br /> subtotals, are summarized in the table below: <br />
