The project area consists of existing 6-inch steel water mains that were installed in
the 1950's and have experienced approximately 50 leaks, of which 21 have occurred in the last five
years. The work will entail the construction of approximately 5,600 linear feet of eight-inch ductile iron
pipe, 14 fire hydrants, 114 service tie-avers, and 11 system connections. The work identified will be
constructed by RPU Water Division field forces.
Once the new water pipelines are installed, RPU will be responsible for standard trench repaving per the
Public Works standard. Near the end of pipeline construction, staff will solicit paving bids for paving the
trench area from RPU's Paving Contractor Panel. A budgetary estimate for the paving work has been
included in this authorization.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total capital expenditure for Work Order No. 1201978 is estimated to be $1,673,000 which includes
all design, construction, paving, contract administration and inspection costs necessary to perform the
work, as summarized in the following table:
Description Cost Percent of Total
Design/Survey/Potholing $65,000 3.9%
Construction (City Forces) $1,008,000 60.2%
Construction Contingency $100,000 6.0%
Paving Budget $500,040 29.9%
Total $1,673,000 100%
Sufficient funds are available in the Public Utilities' Water Main Replacement Account No. 6230000-
470707.
