The pump stopped
producing water in July 2012 and the ensuing inspection uncovered a broken drive shaft. Staff secured
the services of contractors to repair and service the pump and motor, as well as to inspect the Well to
determine what level of rehabilitation would be necessary to return the Well to service.
Riverside Public Utilities' (RPU) records indicate that the Well has not been rehabilitated since it was
constructed and as a result more extensive rehabilitation work is necessary including increasing the
number of perforations in the Well casing. The rehabilitation work will consist of the following work:
brushing and bailing; water jetting; dual swab; surge and airlifting of the existing and new perforations.
Staff solicited bids from five contractors to perform the rehabilitation work. Tri County Pump Company of
San Bernardino, California was selected to perform the work identified above.
This project is for all work needed to rehabilitate the Cooley H Well, including the well, pump and motor.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total project cost is estimated at $75,000 as shown on the table below:
Description Cost Percent of Total
Rehabilitation of Well $46,650 62%
Repair of Well Pump $19,448 26%1
Rehabilitation of Motor $3,952 5%
Contingencies $4,950 1 7%
Total $75,000 100%
Sufficient funds are available in the Public Utilities' Water Fund, Facility Rehab Account No. 6230000-
470803.
