RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES Board Memorandum PUBLIC UTILITIES BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: November 2, 2012 ITEM NO: 5 SUBJECT: CIRCUIT 1551 SWITCH, CAPACITOR AND JUNCTION CABINET INSTALLATION WORK ORDER NO. 1204535 ISSUE: Board of Public Utilities approval is requested for Work Order No. 1204535. RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Public Utilities approve the estimated capital expenditure of $284,768 to install a padmount switch, capacitor, and junction cabinet to improve system reliability on Circuit 1551 in the Orangecrest neighborhood. BACKGROUND: Consistent with the recommendations in Riverside Public Utilities' (RPU) Electric System Master Plan for system reliability, staff has targeted Circuit 1551 located in the Orangecrest neighborhood for replacement of an underground aging oil switch. This project will include intercepting existing underground infrastructure and the installation of three pad-mounted structures. This project is part of RPU's efforts to improve operational efficiencies as underground operable equipment is replaced with above ground, pad-mounted equipment. All pad-mounted equipment will be installed with consideration given to the surrounding aesthetics. Engineering was performed by RPU staff and electrical work will be performed by RPU field forces. Civil construction will be performed by contract crews from the RPU Contractor's Panel.
