The Project will entail lowering Streeter
Avenue to create an underpass beneath the existing railroad tracks. The work will include modifying the
surrounding roadways, as well as relocating various underground and overhead utilities. It is anticipated
that the grade separation project will enhance safety and provide significant improvements to traffic flows
along Streeter Avenue.
The reconfiguration of the electric distribution system as a result of the Project will include the installation
of approximately 2,763 feet of 12kV underground feeder cable, 9,828 feet of conduit, 25 street lights, 20
wall pack lights, relocation of 548 feet of overhead transmission lines, and relocation of 958 feet of
overhead distribution lines. The equipment was designed and will be installed with consideration given
to the surrounding aesthetics.
The lowest responsive bid was received from Griffith Company in a total amount of $16,485,718.50. The
electric related portion of the bid, which includes the civil construction by the Public Works contractor of
electric conduit and structures, was $535,541. Engineering was performed by Riverside Public Utilities
(RPU) staff and electric overhead and underground construction will be performed by RPU field forces.
The City Council is scheduled to consider awarding a construction contract to Griffith Company in
October 2012.
