W A T E R E N E R G Y I ] P i <br /> RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: July 20, 2012 <br /> ITEM NO: 5 <br /> SUBJECT WATER SERVICES RELOCATION PROJECT ON VILLA STREET AND ELECTRIC <br /> AVENUE <br /> ISSUE- <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities consider approval of the capital expenditure in the amount of$160,000 to <br /> relocate water services along Villa Street and Electric Avenue. <br /> RECOMMENDATION, <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities approve the capital expenditure of$160,000 for Work Order No. 1206403, <br /> which includes construction and paving costs for the Villa Street and Electric Avenue Water Service <br /> Relocation Project. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> This project is part of the Riverside Public Utilities(RPU)ongoing water main replacement program to replace <br /> aging and undersized water mains. In particular, the water main segments along Villa Street between La <br /> Cadena Drive and Devener Street and along Electric Avenue south of Villa Street are undersized, have <br /> experienced several leaks in recent history, and are located in the frontyards and backyards of the properties <br /> they serve. The work generally entails relocating approximately 18 water services currently connected to 4- <br /> inch and 2-inch waterlines and reconnecting them to the existing 12-inch water mains along Villa Street and <br /> Electric Avenue. This part of the water system was installed by the Highlanders Water Company which the <br /> City acquired in the 1960's. The work identified will be constructed by the Water Division's field forces. <br /> Once the service relocations are complete, RPU will repair any trenches in accordance with the City of <br /> Riverside standards, and restore any affected front yards or backyards to their original conditions. A <br /> budgetary estimate for this work is included in this authorization. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT:. <br /> The total capital expenditure for Work Order No. 1206403 is estimated to be $160,000, which includes <br /> construction costs only as no engineering design costs are anticipated. The costs to perform the work are <br /> summarized in the following table: <br /> Potholing[CEQA $15,700 <br /> Construction $128,100 <br /> Paving $16,200 <br /> Work Order Total $160,000 <br /> Sufficient funds are available in the Public Utilities'Water Main Replacement Account No.6230000-470707 <br />
