W A T E R i E N E R G Y , L I F E <br /> RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> PUBLIC UTILITIE5 <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: June 15, 2012 <br /> ITEM NO: 6 <br /> SUBJECT: CONSTRUCTION OF THE VICTORIA AVENUE 8-INCH WATER DISTRIBUTION <br /> MAIN REPLACEMENT PROJECT—WORK ORDER NO. 1203555 <br /> ISSUE: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities consider approval of the capital expenditure in the amount of <br /> $1,708,000 to construct the Victoria Avenue 8-Inch Water Distribution Main Replacement Project, <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities approve the capital expenditure of $9,708,000 for Work Order No. <br /> 1203559 which includes all design, construction, paving, contract administration and construction <br /> contingency costs for the Victoria Avenue 8-Inch Water Distribution Main Replacement Project. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The construction of the Victoria Avenue 8-Inch Water Distribution Main Replacement Project is part of <br /> the on-going water main replacement program to replace old and leaky mains. The project area consists <br /> of existing 8-inch cast iron water mains that were installed more than 85 years ago. The work will entail <br /> the construction of approximately 6,700 linear feet of eight-inch ductile iron pipe, 11 fire hydrants, 46 <br /> service tie-overs, and 16 system connections. The work identified will be constructed by the Water <br /> Division's field forces. <br /> Once the new water pipelines are installed, Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) will be responsible for <br /> standard trench repaving per the Public Works standard. Near the end of pipeline construction staff will <br /> solicit paving bids for paving the trench area. A budgetary estimate for the paving work has been <br /> included in this authorization. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> The total capital expenditure for Work Order No. 1203559 is estimated to be $1,708,000 which includes <br /> all design, construction, paving, contract administration and construction contingency costs necessary to <br /> perform the work, as summarized in the following table: <br /> Description —New Construction Cost Percent of Total <br /> Design $85,000 5.0% <br /> Construction (City Forces) $958,000 56.1% <br /> Paving $515,000 30.1% <br /> Geotechnical/Survey $10,000 0.6% <br /> Construction Contingency $110,000 6.4% <br /> Contract Management/Inspection (Paving) $30,000 1.8°fin <br /> Work Order Total $1,708,000 100% <br /> Sufficient funds are available in the Public Utilities' Water Main Replacement Account No. 6230000- <br /> 470707. <br />
