Subsequent investigation determined that the failed
cable caused significant damage to the conduit, requiring its replacement as well. Also, the adjoining cables
in that immediate area are identified to be replaced through the cable replacement program.
Engineering has now been completed by RPU staff. The Project includes:
• Installation of one S X 5' pull box
• Installation of 3,897' of conduit
• Replacement of 1200' of#2AL C[C HMPE cable with new 114AL XLPE cable in conduit
• Approximately 36,000 sq. ft. of pavement grind and asphalt overlay
• Approximately 103,544 sq, ft. of rubberized slurry
All construction work including trenching, conduits, and other infrastructure work will be performed by contract
crews from the Electric Contractors'Panel. Directional boring maybe used,if possible,to reduce the amount
of street repairs needed. All electrical work including cable installation, splicing and terminationswil[be done
performed by RPU field forces.
The Project also includes deferred paving on Collingwood Drive,Amanda Court and Lydia Avenue due to a
previous cable failure and repairs that occurred in September 2011. Paving for this work was deferred to help
minimize the impact on focal residents and to allow for normal bidding processes to be used. Streets in this
area were completely renovated by Public Works within the last three years.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The capital expenditure for the project is estimated to be $280,000 and is broken out as follows:
