W A T E R E N E R G Y L I E F <br /> awd RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: May 4, 2012 <br /> ITEM NO: 4 <br /> SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF COMPUTER HARDWARE TO SUPPORT ONGOING DATA STORAGE <br /> REQUIREMENTS <br /> ISSUE: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities consider approval of an expenditure in the amount of$300,000 for new data <br /> storage hardware. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities approve the expenditure of$300,000 to purchase new computer hardware <br /> for data storage. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> New and ongoing projects necessitate purchase of additional on-line computer storage. The Information <br /> Technology (IT) Department, which manages computer resources for RPU, estimates additional storage <br /> needs related to Cl S,GIS and power resource market operations and analytics will require additional storage <br /> of approximately 24 tera-bytes. The IT Department has developed a server and storage strategy that will <br /> satisfy these storage requirements and provide adequate redundancy and flexibility to meet the needs of <br /> Public Utilities. <br /> New storage would be procured by the IT Department under their existing hardware contracts. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT. <br /> The estimated cost to purchase the required hardware is $300,000.
