The overall water service area is segregated into numerous smaller sub-
areas known as pressure zones. These zones are defined largely based on the ground elevations and
surrounding topography of these smaller regions.
Water supply for RP U's Chicago 1100 Pressure Zone is delivered via two existing booster stations and two
existing PRV's. One of these existing PRV's,known as Spruce PRV, has been taken out of operation due to
reliability problems resulting from its poor condition.
Staff has prepared construction plans for a replacement PRV on Spruce Street near the location of the
existing PRV(Attachment 1). The work will generally entail construction of a new PRV inside a buried vault,
along with all other incidental piping, valves and appurtenances and the abandonment of the old PRV. The
Water Division's field forces will perform the construction work of this project.
Once the new PRV is installed, RPU will be responsible for paving any affected areas within the street. The
Public Works Department field crews will complete final street paving.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total capital expenditure for Work Order No. 1219375 is estimated to be $154,500 which includes all
design and construction costs necessary to perform the work, as summarized in the following table:
Design/Survey/Potholing/CEQA $8,500
Construction $121,000
Paving $25,000
Work Order Tatal $154,544
