W A T E R - E N E R G Y L I F E <br /> L3w& RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: January 4, 2013 <br /> ITEM NO: 3 <br /> SUBJECT: ELECTRICAL CABLE BURN-UP AT ORLANDO DRIVE AND WARREN STREET <br /> WORK ORDER NO. 1349752 <br /> ISSUE: <br /> This issue for Board of Public Utilities consideration is approval of Work Order No. 1309752. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities approve the estimated capital expenditure of $79,000 for Work Order <br /> No.1309752 to replace failed High Molecular Weight Poly Ethylene cable on Orlando Drive and Warren <br /> Street by installing new conduit and cable. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> On September 27, 2012, Circuit 1289 tripped and locked out when a High Molecular Weight Poly Ethylene <br /> (HMPE) cable failed between structure C1239 on Orlando Drive and structure 81120 on Warren Street. <br /> The project includes the installation of 706 feet of conduit and 12 kV cable with related repairs to street <br /> improvements. Engineering has been completed by Riverside Public Utilities(RPU)staff. All construction <br /> work including trenching,conduits,and other infrastructure work will be performed by contract crews from the <br /> Contractors'panel.All electrical work will be performed by RPU field forces. Directional boring may be used, <br /> if feasible, to reduce costs. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> The capital expenditure for the project is estimated at$79,000 and detailed as follows: <br /> Percent of Total <br /> RPU Engineering-Design $5,955.02 7.5% <br /> Contract Construction— Sub-Structures $57,949.98 73.4% <br /> City Construction of Cabling 8 Equipment $8,000.00 10.1% <br /> Contingency, including change order authorization $7,095.00 9.0% <br /> Total $79,000A0 100.0% <br />
