W A T E R E N E R G Y L I F E E3W& RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES Board Memorandum PUBLIC UTILITIES BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: April 19, 2013 ITEM NO: 9 SUBJECT: CREATION OF AD HOC COMMITTEE ENTITLED "NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION" ISSUE: The item for Board of Public Utilities consideration is creation of an ad hoc committee entitled"New Member Orientation." RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Public Utilities create a new committee entitled"New Member Orientation"and appoint up to four members of the Board to that committee. BACKGROUND: Section 8.0 of the Standing Rules of the Board of Public Utilities provides the following: "The RPU Board or the Board Chair may appoint an ad hoc committee as needed. Each ad hoc committee shall consist of an appointed Chairperson and at least two other RPU Board members. Ad hoc committees serve a limited or single purpose,are not perpetual, and are dissolved once their specific task is completed." Staff wishes to provide orientation to newer Boardmembers, as has been previously requested. Staff also wishes to be respectful of other Boardmembers who may already be familiar with orientation topics. Therefore, staff proposes that the Board create an ad hoc committee entitled "New Member Orientation", which will meet immediately following the Board meeting. Membership will be comprised of up to four Board members, with preference given to new boardmembers. If created, the first meeting will take place immediately after the April 19, 2012 Board meeting.
