Award a contract for the construction of the Mulberry Booster Pump Station Rehabilitation
Project, Bid No. 7125 to the lowest responsive bidder, Cora Contractors, Inc. of Palm Desert,
California, in the amount of$344,325.
BACKGROUND:
Originally built in 1934, the Mulberry Booster Pump Station (Mulberry) supplies water to the Chicago
1100 Pressure Zone, which includes both the Eastside and Hunter Industrial Park neighborhoods and
supports the University of California, Riverside. Two of the three pumps within the Station have
exceeded their useful life and need replacement. In addition, Mulberry's pumping capacity needs to be
increased to meet existing and future demands.
This project will increase the capacity of Mulberry and enhance water system reliability within the
Chicago 1100 Zone. The project will include replacing two pumps with higher capacity pumps; upsizing
about 200 linear feet of suction pipeline from 12-inch to 24-inch diameter pipe; replacing interior piping;
and installing new electrical equipment. Work in the Applebee's restaurant parking lot and adjacent
street will be performed during nighttime hours to minimize impact to the restaurant and patrons.
Bids were opened on April 2, 2013. The lowest responsive bid was from Cora Contractors, Inc. Staff
has reviewed all provided documentation and has determined that Cora Contractors, Inc. has met all of
the requirements of the specifications.
