RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES ago Board Memorandum PUBLIC UTILITIES BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: September 20, 2013 ITEM NO: 5 SUBJECT: OVERHEAD ELECTRICAL POLE RELOCATION ALONG VAN BUREN BOULEVARD BETWEEN AUDREY AVENUE AND JACKSON STREET — WORK ORDER NO. 1403056 ISSUE: The issue for Board of Public Utilities consideration is approval of the estimated capital expenditures of $112,400 for Work Order No. 1403056 for the relocation of six electric utility poles for the Van Buren Boulevard Street Widening Project. RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Public Utilities approve the estimated capital expenditure of $112,400 for Work Order No. 1403056 to relocate six electric utility poles for Public Work's Van Buren Boulevard Street Widening Project. BACKGROUND: This project will relocate existing overhead facilities in conflict with the Public Works' Van Buren Boulevard Street Widening Project along Van Buren Boulevard between Audrey Avenue and Jackson Street (Attachment 1). The project includes the relocation of six Riverside Public Utility wood poles and associated underground risers. Staff considered undergrounding the overhead lines as part of this Project. However, the Project addresses small non-continuous sections of Van Buren Boulevard making undergrounding the lines cost prohibitive. Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) staff completed the project engineering with consideration given to the surrounding aesthetics, while ensuring that such consideration did not impact the cost of construction.
