LJ id& RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br />Board Memorandum <br />PUBLIC UTILITIES <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: September 6, 2013 <br />ITEM NO: 9 <br />SUBJECT: CONSTRUCTION OF THE WELLS AVENUE 12 -INCH WATER DISTRIBUTION <br />MAIN REPLACEMENT PROJECT — WORK ORDER NO. 1220836 <br />ISSUE: <br />The item for Board of Public Utilities consideration is approval of the capital expenditure in the amount of <br />$1,370,000 to construct the Wells Avenue 12 -Inch Water Distribution Main Replacement Project.. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />That the Board of Public Utilities approve the capital expenditure of $1,370,000 for Work Order No. <br />1220836 which includes all design, construction, paving, contract administration and construction <br />contingency costs for the Wells Avenue 12 -Inch Water Distribution Main Replacement Project. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The construction of the Wells Avenue 12 -Inch Water Distribution Main Replacement Project is part of <br />Riverside Public Utilities' (RPU) on -going water main replacement program to replace old and high <br />priority leaky mains. The project area consists of an existing 14 -inch steel water main that was installed <br />in 1947 and has experienced approximately 12 leaks, of which four occurred in the past five years. The <br />work will entail the construction of approximately 3,880 linear feet of 12 -inch ductile iron pipe, 77 service <br />tie - overs, 13 fire hydrants, and 6 system connections. The work identified will be constructed by the <br />Water Division's field forces. <br />Once the new water pipelines are installed, RPU will be responsible for standard trench repaving in <br />accordance with Public Works' (PW) paving standard and based on coordination with PW staff. Staff will <br />solicit paving bids for paving the trench area from RPU's Paving Contractor Panel.
