W A 7 € R € W € R G Y <br /> J� III& RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: July 19, 2013 <br /> ITEM NO: 7 <br /> SUBJECT: REPLACEMENT OF DETERIORATED GAS SWITCH AND ASSOCIATED <br /> EQUIPMENT IN VAULT V-1836 -WORK ORDER NO. 1120307 <br /> ISSUE. <br /> The item for Board of Public Utilities consideration is approval for Work Order No. 1120307 to replace the <br /> deteriorated gas switch GS3-267 and associated equipment in Vault V-1836. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities approve the estimated capital expenditure of $270,000 for Work Order <br /> No. 1120307. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Vault V-1836 was installed in 1976 on Tyler Street at the intersection of Mandalay Court and Tyler Street. <br /> An inspection by contract crews on July 7, 2010, determined that V-1836 has some heavy cracks and <br /> decomposing in various areas. The inspection also revealed that GS3-267 is deteriorated and in need of <br /> replacement along with associated underground equipment inside V-1836. <br /> Engineering has been completed by Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) staff and a contract consultant. All <br /> construction work including trenching, conduits, and other infrastructure work will be performed by <br /> contract crews from the Contractors' Panel for Energy Delivery Work. All pad-mounted equipment will be <br /> installed with consideration given to the surrounding esthetics. Directional boring may be used, if <br /> possible, to reduce the amount of street repairs needed. All electrical work including cable installation, <br /> splicing, and terminations will be done by RPU field forces. <br /> The Project includes: <br /> • Installation of one pad mounted switch to replace deteriorated GS3-267 <br /> • Installation of two pad mounted junction cabinets to replace load break junctions in V-1836 <br /> • Installation of 644 feet of 2-inch conduit <br /> • Installation of 2,398 feet of 4-inch conduit <br /> • Installation of 2,431 feet of 5-inch conduit <br /> • Installation of 611 feet of new 1/OAL XLPE cable in conduit. <br /> • Installation of 78 feet of protective retaining wall for new above ground structures <br /> • Approximately 1,405 square feet of paving <br />
