<br />i <br /> <br />CITY OF RIVERSIDE <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL/REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />Redevelopment Agency <br /> <br />Date: <br />Item No.: <br /> <br />June 5, 200 I <br />13 <br /> <br />Subject: Request Approval and Filing ofthe Lead Based Paint Hazard Control Grant Application <br />submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />In March 200 I the U,S, Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued its annual Super Notice of <br />Funding Available (SuperNOFA), Contained within this year's SuperNOFA was a $59 million allocation for a <br />Lead Based Paint Hazard Control Grant ("Grant"), This grant, which is specifically tied to abatement of lead <br />hazards for children under six years of age, offers awards of between one and three million dollars (over 36 <br />months) for educational outreach, structural testing and abatement, and childhood medical services, At its <br />meeting of May I, 200 I, the City Council authorized staff to prepare an application for the grant and authorized <br />the City Manager to sign any necessary documents, <br /> <br />Current Issue <br /> <br />Development staff prepared an application for the grant (attached as Exhibit A) and submitted the application to <br />HUD by the May 17,2001 deadline, The application includes standard HUD forms, a budget for the program, a <br />narrative explaining the City's proposed program and partners, and copies of the Memorandums of Understanding <br />the City has executed with its partners, At this time staff requests that the City Council and the Redevelopment <br />Agency read, approve, and file the grant application, <br /> <br />Analysis <br /> <br />No further action needs to be taken regarding this grant application, The City will be notified sometime in July <br />concerning approval or disapproval of the application and the award of any grant funds, <br /> <br />Fiscal Impact <br /> <br />There will be no further costs for this application, There is no impact to the General Fund, <br /> <br />Alternatives <br /> <br />As the application has already been submitted, no alterations can be made at this time, However, if the Council <br />no longer wishes to pursue a lead abatement program through this grant, the application can be withdrawn from <br />competition, <br /> <br />Council/Agency Recommendations <br /> <br />That the City CounciL <br /> <br />1, Receive, approve and file the grant application as attached and detailed above, <br /> <br />That the Redevelopment Agency, <br /> <br />I, Receive, approve and file the grant application as attached and detailed above. <br /> <br />Prepared by: <br /> <br />~ ;JJ1.
