RPU -7266 - <br />WORK ORDER NO. 1415543 <br />ISSUES: <br />The issues for Board of Public Utilities consideration are: 1) award of a contract to U.S. Dash <br />Construction, Inc. in the amount $379,000 for the remodeling of approximately 2,900 square feet of <br />unoccupied leased space on the fifth floor of the Mission Square office facility, Bid No. RPU -7266; 2) <br />authorize the expenditure of $129,033 for furniture including new board room table, training tables, chairs <br />and casework in accordance with Purchasing Resolution No. 22576, Section 201 (g); and 3) approval of <br />the capital expenditure in the amount of $641,337 for Work Order No. 1415543. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />That the Board of Public Utilities: <br />1. Award a contract for the construction of the Public Utilities Boardroom Rehabilitation, Bid No. <br />RPU -7266 to the lowest responsive bidder, U.S. Dash Construction, Inc. of Woodland Hills, <br />California, in the amount $379,000; <br />2. Authorize the expenditure of $129,033 to G/M Business Interiors for furniture including new <br />board room table, training tables, chairs and casework in accordance with Purchasing <br />Resolution No. 22576, Section 201 (g); and <br />3. Approve the estimated capital expenditure for Work Order No. 1415543 in the amount of <br />$641,337, including a 10% contingency for the remodeling of approximately 2,900 square feet <br />of unoccupied leased space on the fifth floor of the Mission Square office facility. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />At Mission Square office facility, there is 2,900 square feet of un- improved space on the fifth floor <br />adjacent to the Administration offices. Plans are to make improvements to facilitate a meeting place for <br />the Board of Public Utilities and provide space for training and development programs. One such <br />program is the Workforce Development Task Force. The Training Room will provide a dedicated training <br />facility for existing and newly hired employees to further Riverside Public Utilities' (RPU) goals related to <br />workforce development. It will also include a trainer presentation area and the capacity for 15 computer <br />stations. To make full use of the available space and to centralize business within Mission Square, the <br />project also proposes to construct a formal Board of Public Utilities meeting room. Included will be an <br />entrance lobby, an area for public comment, a presentation area, wireless internet, monitors for the <br />audience and staff, auxiliary storage spaces and various supporting audio and video equipment. <br />Since 1991, approximately 70 employees from the RPU Customer Service Division and 311 Call Center <br />have been located in leased space at what is known as the Utility Plaza located at 3460 Orange Street. <br />Utility Plaza is RPU's largest payment center handling approximately 80,000 customer visits per year - <br />This property is owned by the City and lease payments are approximately $400,000 annually. RPU <br />desires to vacate the Utility Plaza to save these lease payments. <br />
