SUBJECT: CONSTRUCTION OF THE <br />AVENUE/BEEJAY STREET <br />OF BID NO. RPU-7244 <br />DAT ugL[St 1, 2014 <br />The item for Board of Public Utilities consideration is approval of a contract award for the construction of <br />the Arlington Avenuerryler Street and Crest Avenue/Beejay Street Water Main Replacement Project — <br />Bid No. RPU-7244, <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />That the Board of Public Utilities: <br />1, Award a contract for the construction of the Arlington Avenue/Tyler Street and Crest <br />Avenue/Beejay Street Water Main Replacement Project — Bid No. RPU-7244 to the lowest <br />responsive bidder, Mamco, Inc. dba Alabbasi, of Riverside, California, in the amount of <br />$1,584,674; <br />2. Approve the capital expenditure. of $2,282,400 for Work Order No. 1323232, which includes all <br />design, construction. contract administration, inspection and construction contingency costs for <br />the Arlington/ Tyler and 'Crest/Beejay Water Main Replacement Project -- Bid No, RPLJ-7244; <br />and <br />3. Authorize the issuance of change orders to the purchase order of up to 15% of the original <br />amount for Bid No, RPU.-7244, <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The construction of the Arlington Avenue/Tyler Street and Crest AvenUe/Beejay Street Water Main <br />Replacement Project is part of Riverside Public Utilities' (RPU) on-going water main replacement <br />program to replace old and high priority leaky mains. The project area consists of existing 4-inch, 6-inch, <br />8-inch, I0- inch, and 14-inch cast iron, steel., and asbestos cement waterlines that were installed in the <br />years ranging from 1935 to 1965 and have required numerous repairs due to leaks over the past several <br />years. These pipelines have reached the upper limit of their useful semlice life and need to be replaced <br />to increase system reliability. <br />The work will generally entail the construction of approximately 4,365 linear feet of 12-inch ductile iron <br />pipe, about 3,980 linear feet of 8-inch ductile iron pipe, 125 water set-vices, 20 fire hydrants, and 25 <br />system connections, along with all necessary fittings and appurtenances. 'The trench resurfacing is also <br />included, per Public Works (P W) paving standards. <br />Staff has coordinated with Ply regarding the allowable working hours and traffic control for this project. <br />The work has been scheduled to occur during daytime hours, with certain portions of the work to be <br />coordinated to occur during off-peak travel hours. <br />
