BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: April 18, 2014 <br />ITEM NO: 6 <br />SUBJEC1 CONSTRUCTION OF THE LAS FLORES AVENUE 8-INCH WATER MAIN <br />REPLACEMENT PROJECT — WORK ORDER O. 1322528 <br />ISSUE: <br />The item for Board of Public Utilities consideration is approval of the capital expenditure in the amount of <br />$392,000 to construct. the Las Flores Avenue 8-Inch Water Main Replacement Proiect, <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Thal. the Board of Public Utilities approve the capital expenditure of $392,000 for Work Order No. <br />1322-528, which includes all design, construction, paving, contract administration, inspection and <br />construction contingency costs for the Las Floras Avenue 8-Inch Water Main Replacement Project. <br />The construction of the Las Flores Avenue 8-Inch Water Main Replacement Prqiect is part of Riverside <br />Public Utilities' (RPU) on-going water main replacernent program to replace old and high priority leaky <br />mains, The project area consists of an existing 4-Alinch cast iron water main that was installed in 1948 <br />and has recently experienced numerous leaks requiring repairs. Based on its leak history, this pipeline <br />has been identified as a high priority for replacement. <br />The work will entail the construction of approximately 935 linear feet of 8-inch ductile 'Iron pipe, 375 linear <br />feet of 4-inch ductile iron pipe, 3 fire hydrants, 14 seNfice tie -over s and one system connection. Las <br />Flores Avenue is a dead-end roadway. In residential zones, RMS's minimum standard size for water <br />mains is 8-inch. However, 4-inch pipelines are allowed at the end of single family residential cul-de-sac <br />streets not requiring fire hydrant attachments and where no more than ten customers are served. The <br />work identified will be constructed by the Water Division's field forces. <br />Once the new water pipelines are installed, RPU will be responsible for standard trench repaving per the <br />Public Works Department standard.
