The Utility has a set
of long -term goals developed in 2011 that were created for implementation over a ten -year time horizon.
In addition, RPU develops three -year goals in order to meet the longer term goals. Executive and senior
management participated in a strategic planning retreat on February 5, 2014. At that time, the five three -
year goals were reviewed, a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis was
performed, and new strategic objectives were developed. Due to the new General Manager being
introduced to this process, certain changes were introduced. The timeframe to revisit the goals was
shortened from eight months to four months.
During this retreat the following goals, "Develop and implement a recycled water program" and "Secure a
second connection to the state electric transmission grid" were combined and broadened to, "Develop
and implement electric and water resource plans ". Additionally, a new goal was introduced, "Create and
implement a workforce development plan ".
In order to monitor RPU's efforts towards meeting these goals, a Four -Month Strategic Objectives
document is created as a detailed work plan to track efforts and accomplishments over the coming
months to meet these goals. A summary of the efforts to meet the Four -Month Strategic Objectives is
provided to the Board on a monthly basis.
The next retreat is scheduled for Thursday, July 24, 2014, and members of the Board of Public Utilities
are invited to attend.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with this update.
Approved by: Girish Balachandran, Public Utilities General Manager
Approved by: Belinda J.
