Call to Order: Meeting was called to order at 4:02 p.m. by Chair Ian Barraza; a quorum was present. 2. Review of Minutes: The minutes of the November 20, 2013 meeting were reviewed and approved as presented. 3. Riverside Policy Department (RPD) Cultural Diversity Training: Representatives of the RPD Sergeants Payne and Hudson, and Officer Baird explained all RPD Officers are required to complete 40 hours of Cultural Diversity Training over the course of two years. They expressed the desire to have MDCC members help craft the training component relevant to deaf/hard-of-hearing individuals, as well as assist with the actual class presentations. Although the Department will be completing the current two-year training cycle in December of 2014, work will need to begin on the new course in September or October to ensure it is ready for next round of classes beginning in January 2015. Participation in the actual classes will require a commitment of one hour per month for two years. Several suggestions were made by MDCC members about inclusions in the planning process. 4. Public Comments: None. 5. Reports/Follow-Up: Treasurer’s Report – Members reviewed the attached summary for the month ending December 31, 2013 reflecting MDCC funds as follows: BBVA = $15,316.68 and City account = $8,487.61. Total funds available as of October 31 equal $23,804.29. Deaf Awareness Week (DAW) – 1. 2012 Statement of Income/Expenditures Review – Postponed due to absence of Lisa Price. An update on the 2012 Molina sponsorship funds is needed and Bummy Burstein said he believes the MDCC is due approximately $200 from the 2012 opportunity drawing.
