METROPOLITAN MUSEUM BOARD MINUTES <br />November 18, 2014 <br /> <br />Present Museum Staff Present <br />David Barnhart, Chair Sarah Suverkrup Mundy, Museum Director <br />Chuck Wilson, Vice Chair Toni Kinsman, Sr. Office Specialist <br />Mary Hughes Kevin Hallaran, Archivist <br />Elio Palacios, Jr. Teresa Woodard Belding, Curator of Education <br />Bud Minton <br />Absent <br />Surekha (Sue) Acharya <br /> Holly Redfern <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />The meeting was called to order at 4:05p.m. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />The minutes from October 14, 2014 were approved with the following corrections: <br /> <br />1-Under Museum Operations clarify that recruitment has closed for the Associate Curator positions. <br /> <br />2-Under Collections Committee change the wording to state the Report to the Museum Board from the <br />Collections Committee was presented and moved for approval. <br />Motion: C. Wilson <br />Second: E. Palacios <br />Abstain: D. Barnhart due to absence <br />Ayes: All except D. Barnhart <br /> <br />CHAIRMAN’S REPORT <br />Museum Board Member Yolanda Esquivel gave her resignation due to a family obligation. <br /> <br />New Board member Surekha (Sue) Acharya was introduced. Sue is a Professor at Riverside Community <br />College and has a background in English and Anthropology. Sue has served on prior Boards and has <br />also been active with the Museum during a past exhibition on Hyderabad, India. <br /> <br />Tours for the new Board members will be arranged for each of the Museum sites. <br /> <br />REPORT ON MUSEUM OPERATIONS <br />Interviews are underway for the Associate Curator positions. The Museum has hired General Services <br />Worker, Cesar Mendez. A list of applications for the Office Specialist has been pulled from the <br />applications on file with Human Resources. <br /> <br /> Ameal Moore Nature Center Activities Update <br />1. <br />Curator of Education, Teresa Woodard Belding gave an update on the Ameal Moore Nature Center. <br />The Nature Center is a joint venture between the City’s Museum and Parks & Recreation <br />departments. A nature facilities grant was received from the State of California for the structure on <br />the site as well matching funds for part time staffing to last approximately three years. A website <br />called My Sycamore Canyon was created as well as a blog. There are five part time staff on site <br />weekly. Public hours for the Nature Center are 40 hours per week but subject to seasonal changes. <br />nd <br />The focus is hands-on science education using park resources. A new free public program called 2 <br />Saturdays started in November. An activities update on the Nature Center will be presented quarterly <br />to the Museum Board. <br /> <br /> Arts and Cultural Affairs Division (ACAD) update <br />2. <br />
