W A T E R r N r R G Y L 1 f E <br /> AW& RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: JANUARY 23, 2015 <br /> ITEM NO: 13 <br /> SUBJECT: RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES STRATEGIC PLANNING WORKSHOP PROPOSED <br /> AGENDAS AND SCHEDULE <br /> ISSUE: <br /> The item for Board of Public Utilities consideration is discussion of the process and agendas for the <br /> proposed strategic planning sessions. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities provide direction to staff on scheduling, process and agendas for the <br /> proposed strategic planning sessions with RPU General Manager and staff. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Staff has spent the better part of 2014 developing a collection of "roadmaps" to guide the strategic <br /> direction of RPU in 2015 and beyond. These roadmaps include: <br /> • Infrastructure (both Energy Delivery and Water); <br /> • Advanced Technology; <br /> • Workforce Development; and <br /> • Financial <br /> In additional, staff has prepared a document looking at the "Utility of the Future" and the implications for <br /> RPU, our customers and community. Staff now proposes to engage with the Board in a series of <br /> workshops to solicit feedback and receive guidance and direction with regard to the roadmaps, critical <br /> issues and potential alternatives. The issues and alternatives identified during these workshops will guide <br /> formation of staff rate plan recommendation to be presented back to the Board in late summer 2015. <br /> Under the Board's Policy A-3, the RPU Board shall formally evaluate efforts towards meeting goals and <br /> objectives for the upcoming year as conducted through a formal goal setting process by staff and/or <br /> board members. Staff proposes to use these workshops to facilitate fulfillment of that obligation, A <br /> redline copy of the Department's Mission, Vision, Core Values, Goals and listing of long range planning <br /> documents is attached for review. <br /> Staff proposes the following timeframes for the workshops: <br />
