RPU-7344) -WORK ORDER NO. 1408503 <br /> ISSUES: <br /> The items for Board of Public Utilities consideration are: 1) approval of additional capital expenditure in the <br /> amount of$30,000 for Work Order No. 1408503 for a revised total of$206,000;and 2)approval of a contract <br /> award for removal and replacement of pump and motor for the Thorne 12 Well. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities authorize an additional capital expenditure in the amount of $30,000 for <br /> Work Order No. 1408503 for a revised total of$206,000 for removal and replacement of the existing pump <br /> and motor for the Thorne 12 Well. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> On November 1, 2013, the Board of Public Utilities (Board) approved the rehabilitation project of five wells. <br /> The work for each well required removal of the existing pump and motor followed by performing a video <br /> survey of the existing conditions of the well screen. The well rehabilitation work for the Thorne 12 Well was <br /> completed in the fall of 2014. The Board authorized $176,000 for Work Order No. 1408503 of which about <br /> $50,000 remains. <br /> The pump and motor were inspected and determined to be in poor condition and need to be replaced, In <br /> addition, staff recommends that the new pump be placed deeper to account for lower water table levels in the <br /> Bunker Hill Basin. This work will be for the replacement of the pump and motor as well as for the increasing of <br /> the length of the pumping column. The refurbished well is expected to provide up to 2,000 gallons per minute <br /> to the potable water system. <br /> On October 23, 2007,the City Council approved a contractor panel to be used for various types of Riverside <br /> Public Utilities Projects. In accordance with that contractor panel, staff solicited bids for equipping the well <br /> under bid number RPU-7304. Two bids were received on January 12, 2015. Staff has review all provided <br /> documentation and has determined that Tri County Pump Company is the lowest responsive, responsible <br /> bidder. <br /> The supply and installation of the pump bids received are summarized in the table below. <br /> Company Bid Total <br /> Tri County Pump Company- San Bernardino, California $70,353.00 <br /> Best Drilling and Pump, Inc. - Colton, California $79,855.00 <br /> General Pump Company- San Dimas, California No Bid <br /> ■Engineer's Cost Estimate:$80,000.00 <br /> Work Order No. 1408503 needs to be increased by $30,000 to a total of$206,000 to do this work. <br /> The Purchasing Services Manager concurs with this report. <br />
