Based on their
leak history, these water pipelines have been identified as high priorities for replacement to increase
system reliability.
The Public Works Department (PW) is scheduled to perform a street improvement project which will
entail widening Tyler Street in summer 2015. This water main replacement project was developed in
close collaboration with PW in order to coordinate the street widening and water main replacements.
Based on the leak history and the upcoming paving project, these water pipelines have been identified
as high priorities for replacement.
The work will generally entail the construction of approximately 560 linear feet of 12-inch ductile iron
pipe, two fire hydrants, three service tie-overs, one 4-inch fire service connection, and three system
connections, along with all necessary fittings and appurtenances. The work identified will be
constructed by the Water Division's field forces. Other than routine service tie-overs, this project is not
expected to disrupt service to RPU water customers.
Once the new water pipelines are installed, RPU will be responsible for standard trench repaving per
the Public Works Department (PW) standard. Given the relatively small size of this project, PW's
paving crew will perform the trench base paving following pipe installation. If the work schedule of PW
crews is not able to accommodate the pavement work soon after the pipeline installation, staff will
solicit paving bids for base paving the trench area from RPU's Paving Contractor Panel. A budgetary
estimate for the paving work has been included in this authorization. The final pavement resurfacing
will be completed as part of the overall PW street improvement project.
