Board Memorandum
BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: APRIL 17, 2015
ITEM NO: 7
SUBJECT: ARLINGTON AVENUE WATER SERVICES RELOCATION PROJECT
ISSUE:
The issue for Board of Public Utilities consideration is approval of the capital expenditure in the amount
of$70,000 for Work Order No. 1516755 to relocate various water services along Arlington Avenue.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Board of Public Utilities approve the capital expenditure of $70,000 for Work Order No.
1516755, which includes construction costs for the Arlington Avenue Service Relocation Project.
BACKGROUND:
This project is part of the Riverside Public Utilities Department's (RPU) ongoing water main replacement
program to replace aging, undersized and leaky water mains. A 6-inch cast iron waterline in Arlington
Avenue at Harold Avenue, constructed in 1969, has experienced 11 leaks with two occurring in 2015.
Approximately 550 feet of this waterline will be abandoned and all services and fire hydrant will be
reconnected to the existing 14-inch asbestos cement waterline installed in 1967. The 14-inch pipeline
has no history of leaks, and the work identified will be constructed by the Water Division's field forces.
Once the services and fire hydrant relocations are complete, RPU will repair the trenches in accordance
with Public Works 453 standard of 2011. A budgetary estimate for the paving work has been included in
this authorization.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total capital expenditure for Work Order No. 1516755 is estimated to be $70,000, which includes
construction and paving costs as summarized in the following table:
Construction $53,000
Paving $10,000
Contingency $7,000
Work Order Total $70,000
Funds are budgeted and available in the Public Utilities' Water Main Replacement Account No. 6230000-
470707.
