Members of the public distributed written materials to the Board chair and ask that they <br />be distributed to the Board. <br />A. Departmental Presentation — Mike Esparza, Interim Fire Chief <br />• Acting Fire Chief Mike Esparza provided the Board with a verbal overview of the Fire Department. This <br />included a PowerPoint presentation of the department's organizational chart, functions and services, <br />current workforce, retention /turnover rate, recruitment strategies and Fire Explorer Program. <br />• Mr. Esparza informed the Board of the various departmental morale boosters the Fire Department has <br />such as the department's biannual promotional and merit awards ceremonies, employee services <br />awards and monthly newsletter. <br />• Board Member Alysia Webb inquired as to the average response time to arrive to an emergency <br />situation. Acting Chief Esparza indicated that the average response time is roughly five (5) minutes. <br />• Board Member Sonya Dew inquired as to why the Fire Department does so much recruiting with very <br />minimal openings. Mr. Esparza responded and indicated that the recruitment process is a lengthy <br />detailed process and one of the struggles that we face is competing with other agencies. Mr. Esparza <br />also indicated that we need to continually prepare for the vacancies of tomorrow. <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
