"'TW� " <br /> " City Council Memorandum <br /> City 0'Arts Unnovation <br /> TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: DECEMBER 18, 2012 <br /> FROM: PARKS, RECREATION AND COMMUNITY ITEM NO: 32 <br /> SERVICES DEPARTMENT <br /> WARDS: ALL <br /> SUBJECT: KAISER PERMANENTE OPERATION SPLASH AND RETHINK YOUR DRINK <br /> PROGRAM GRANT— SUPPLEMENTAL APPROPRIATION <br /> ISSUE: <br /> The issue for City Council consideration is approval to accept a grant from Kaiser Permanente <br /> in the amount of $55,000 for the Operation Splash and the Rethink Your Drink Program. <br /> RECOMMENDATIONS: <br /> That the City Council: <br /> 1. Accept the grant award in the amount of $55,000 from Kaiser Permanente for the <br /> Operation Splash and Rethink Your Drink Program for Fiscal Year 2012/13; <br /> 2. Authorize an increase in revenues in the amount of $55.000 and appropriate <br /> expenditures in the same amount to the Recreation Division Account No. 5205000- <br /> 426500; <br /> 3. Approve the submittal of the Fiscal Year 2013/14 application for the Kaiser Permanente <br /> Community Benefit Grant for the Operation Splash Program in the amount of $55,000; <br /> and <br /> 4. Upon grant award, authorize an increase in revenues in the amount of $55,000 and <br /> appropriate expenditures in the same amount to an account as established by the <br /> Finance Department. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> In March 2012, the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department (PRCSD) was <br /> awarded $55,000 from Kaiser Permanente for the Operation Splash and Rethink Your Drink <br /> Programs. Because of this generous grant, the PRCSD was able to provide 1,209 swim <br /> lessons, 1,155 swim pool passes, 322 Silver Swimmer pool passes and 114 Jr. Lifeguard <br /> course enrollments during the 2012 summer. Additionally, the PRCSD, in conjunction with the <br /> Riverside County Department of Health, was able to provide 3,671 aquatic participants, pool <br /> patrons, and family members with materials and demonstrations that encouraged a healthy <br /> beverage lifestyle through the Rethink Your Drink component.
