CITY OF RIVERSIDE <br /> <br />REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />HONORABLE MAYOR AND AGENCY MEMBERS <br /> <br />DATE: May 16, 2000 <br /> <br />ITEM NO.: <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />REQUEST AUTHORIZATION TO AMEND THE LEGAL SERVICES AGREEMENT <br />WITH THE LAW OFFICE OF OLIVER, VOSE, SANDIFER. MURPHY & LEE', <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: <br /> <br />The Redevelopment Agency' of the City of Riverside has a number of law firms which have been <br />approved to provide legal services. The Law Office of Oliver, Vose, Sandirer, Murphy and Lee have <br />been approved by the City Council and Agency Board in the past, and most recently for specific projects <br />such as the Historic Mission Inn in 1998. <br /> <br />Currently, the Agency staff is proceeding to engage in the evaluation of land acquisition and potential <br />condemnation activities for the Town Square Shopping Center Project. It is requested that the existing <br />retention agreement with the Law Firm of Oliver, Vose. Sandifer. Murphy & Lee be amended to set <br />forth the flat rate of $200 per hour for attorneys and $85 per hour ti3r paralegals. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> <br />Special counsel will be necessary to provide assistance and consultation to staff conceming acquisition <br />issues tbr the To~vn Square Shopping Center Project. This expense is necessary to determine the <br />Agcncy's potential project. This expense is necessary to determine the Agency's potential financial risk <br />and legal exposure tbr this Project. Funds ti3r this purpose are available in the outside legal services <br />Account No. 2830602-4211000 in the University Corridor Project area. <br /> <br />Because of the magnitude and complexity of Town Square relative to limited Agency resources, all <br />expenditures will be closely monitored. and pre-devetopment activities will only be initiated as actually <br />needed. <br /> <br />4-1 <br /> <br /> <br />
