E I' City Council Memorandum
0r,4 flits&hmovat ion
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: December 11, 2012
FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT ITEM NO: 42
WARD: 3
SUBJECT: INDUSTRIAL AVENUE ESTABLISHMENT OF TIMED 2-HOUR PARKING ZONE-
RESOLUTION
ISSUE:
The issue for City Council consideration is establishment of a timed 2-Hour Parking zone on the
north side of Industrial Avenue at the frontage of the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center located
at 6165 Industrial Avenue.
COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
On November 7, 2012, the Transportation Board reviewed this matter; 8 of 12 members were
present. The Board voted unanimously to recommend establishment of a timed 2-Hour Parking
zone on the designated segment of the north side of Industrial Avenue.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council:
1. Adopt a resolution to establish a "2-Hour Parking Between the Hours of 6:00 a.m. to 5:00
p.m. Monday thru Saturday" zone on the north side of Industrial Avenue from Griffith Street
to 30 feet west of Fremont Street; and
2. Authorize and direct the Traffic Engineer to revise the specific pages of the Master Parking
Schedule necessary to incorporate the amendment and distribute the revised pages to the
appropriate personnel with directions to delete the original pages and insert the revised
pages in the appropriate tables.
BACKGROUND:
The Public Works Department received a request from the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center to
establish a timed 2-Hour Parking zone at the frontage of their property. The 2-Hour Parking zone
would provide short-term parking for patrons and volunteers during peak times of operation. Long-
term parking from adjacent businesses including a storage facility for Manheim Riverside is limiting
availability of short-term on-street parking. In addition, the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center will
be expanding in early 2013 to include a spay and neuter clinic which is anticipated to generate
approximately 60 additional visits to the center daily, increasing the need for short-term parking.
42-1
