I O <br /> � � City Council Memorandum <br /> TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: DECEMBER 11, 2012 <br /> FROM: POLICE DEPARTMENT ITEM NO: 39 <br /> WARDS: ALL <br /> SUBJECT: BULLETPROOF VEST PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM GRANT FISCAL YEAR <br /> 2012 - SUPPLEMENTAL APPROPRIATION <br /> ISSUE: <br /> The issue for City Council consideration is acceptance of a grant in the amount of $6,844.30 <br /> awarded from the Bureau of Justice Assistance for bulletproof vests used by the Police <br /> Department. <br /> RECOMMENDATIONS: <br /> That the City Council: <br /> 1. Approve the acceptance of grant funds in the amount of $6,844.30 from the Bureau of <br /> Justice Assistance; <br /> 2. Authorize an increase in revenues in the amount of $6,844.30 and appropriate <br /> expenditures in the same amount to an account as established by the Finance <br /> Department; and <br /> 3. Authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to execute any necessary contract <br /> documents and to make non-substantive changes in documents. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of 1998, reauthorized in 2000, is an initiative <br /> designed to provide critical resources to state and local law enforcement. The City of <br /> Riverside has received this award 12 times since 1999 for a total of $90,019 in grant funds. <br /> Grant funds must be used to pay for 50% of the cost of bulletproof vests and will allow the <br /> purchase of nine additional vests at approximately $735 each. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> The total grant award is $6,844.30. Sufficient funds are available in the Police Department <br /> Account No. 3102000-426200 for the 50% matching funds. <br /> 39-1 <br />
