I O � � City Council Memorandum TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: DECEMBER 11, 2012 FROM: POLICE DEPARTMENT ITEM NO: 39 WARDS: ALL SUBJECT: BULLETPROOF VEST PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM GRANT FISCAL YEAR 2012 - SUPPLEMENTAL APPROPRIATION ISSUE: The issue for City Council consideration is acceptance of a grant in the amount of $6,844.30 awarded from the Bureau of Justice Assistance for bulletproof vests used by the Police Department. RECOMMENDATIONS: That the City Council: 1. Approve the acceptance of grant funds in the amount of $6,844.30 from the Bureau of Justice Assistance; 2. Authorize an increase in revenues in the amount of $6,844.30 and appropriate expenditures in the same amount to an account as established by the Finance Department; and 3. Authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to execute any necessary contract documents and to make non-substantive changes in documents. BACKGROUND: The Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of 1998, reauthorized in 2000, is an initiative designed to provide critical resources to state and local law enforcement. The City of Riverside has received this award 12 times since 1999 for a total of $90,019 in grant funds. Grant funds must be used to pay for 50% of the cost of bulletproof vests and will allow the purchase of nine additional vests at approximately $735 each. FISCAL IMPACT: The total grant award is $6,844.30. Sufficient funds are available in the Police Department Account No. 3102000-426200 for the 50% matching funds. 39-1
