M° City Council Memorandum City �1"Arts&Innovation TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: DECEMBER 11, 2012 FROM: FIRE DEPARTMENT ITEM NO: 36 WARDS: ALL SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF FISCAL YEAR 2012 STATE HOMELAND SECURITY GRANT PROGRAM FUNDS — SUPPLEMENTAL APPROPRIATION ISSUE: The issue for City Council consideration is acceptance of a grant in the amount of $42,847 from the 2012 State Homeland Security Grant Program for the Fire Department. RECOMMENDATIONS: That the City Council: 1. Approve the acceptance of the 2012 State Homeland Security Grant Program award in the amount $42,847; 2. Authorize an increase in revenues in the amount of$42,847 and appropriate expenditures in the same amount to an account as established by the Finance Department; and 3. Authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to execute all necessary contract documents between the Riverside County Fire Department — Office of Emergency Services and the City of Riverside regarding the use of grants funds. BACKGROUND: The Riverside Fire Department was awarded funding from the United States Department of Homeland Security 2012 State Homeland Security Grant Program sub-granted to the Riverside County Fire Department - Office of Emergency Services (OES) to develop and enhance citizen preparedness and participation. Grant funds will be used to partially offset the salary costs for the Community Preparedness Coordinator position to continue public outreach initiatives under the "Ready Riverside"emergency preparedness program. The performance period for the grant is October 20, 2012 through January 30, 2014. 36-1
