M° City Council Memorandum <br /> City �1"Arts&Innovation <br /> TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: DECEMBER 11, 2012 <br /> FROM: FIRE DEPARTMENT ITEM NO: 36 <br /> WARDS: ALL <br /> SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF FISCAL YEAR 2012 STATE HOMELAND SECURITY GRANT <br /> PROGRAM FUNDS — SUPPLEMENTAL APPROPRIATION <br /> ISSUE: <br /> The issue for City Council consideration is acceptance of a grant in the amount of $42,847 from <br /> the 2012 State Homeland Security Grant Program for the Fire Department. <br /> RECOMMENDATIONS: <br /> That the City Council: <br /> 1. Approve the acceptance of the 2012 State Homeland Security Grant Program award in <br /> the amount $42,847; <br /> 2. Authorize an increase in revenues in the amount of$42,847 and appropriate expenditures <br /> in the same amount to an account as established by the Finance Department; and <br /> 3. Authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to execute all necessary contract documents <br /> between the Riverside County Fire Department — Office of Emergency Services and the <br /> City of Riverside regarding the use of grants funds. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The Riverside Fire Department was awarded funding from the United States Department of <br /> Homeland Security 2012 State Homeland Security Grant Program sub-granted to the Riverside <br /> County Fire Department - Office of Emergency Services (OES) to develop and enhance citizen <br /> preparedness and participation. <br /> Grant funds will be used to partially offset the salary costs for the Community Preparedness <br /> Coordinator position to continue public outreach initiatives under the "Ready Riverside"emergency <br /> preparedness program. <br /> The performance period for the grant is October 20, 2012 through January 30, 2014. <br /> 36-1 <br />
