° N City Council Memorandum <br /> City �1"Arts&Innovation <br /> TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: DECEMBER 11, 2012 <br /> FROM: GENERAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT ITEM NO: 21 <br /> PUBLIC UTILITIES DEPARTMENT <br /> WARD: 1 <br /> SUBJECT: RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES LONG RANGE SPACE PLAN AND FIRST <br /> AMENDMENT TO THE LEASE AT MISSION SQUARE FOR RIVERSIDE PUBLIC <br /> UTILITIES OFFICE SPACE <br /> ISSUES: <br /> The items for City Council consideration are: 1) conceptually approve the long range space plan of <br /> Riverside Public Utilities; and 2) approve the First Amendment to the Lease at Mission Square, <br /> 3750 University Avenue as a component to cost-effectively meeting those needs. <br /> RECOMMENDATIONS: <br /> That the City Council: <br /> 1. Approve, in concept, the multi-phased, long range plan to meet the customer service, office <br /> and field vehicle storage requirements of Riverside Public Utilities; and, <br /> 2. Approve the First Amendment to the Lease at Mission Square, 3750 University Avenue, <br /> with NNN Mission Square, LLC through September 30, 2022, for Riverside Public Utilities <br /> office space, unless earlier terminated as provided in the Agreement; and <br /> 3. Authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to execute the necessary documents; and, <br /> 4. Direct staff to continue with subsequent phases of the long range space plan for Riverside <br /> Public Utilities. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Riverside Public Utilities Long Range Space Plan <br /> Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) is the largest department of the City of Riverside with almost 650 <br /> employees, office staff requirements for 350 employees, light duty and heavy duty vehicles and <br /> equipment to meet the needs of 300 field staff, and customer service options to provide excellent <br /> customer service to over 300,000 residents and more than 11,000 non-residential customers. The <br /> City continues to grow and with that growth comes predictable needs for engineering, installation <br /> and maintenance of electric and water facilities to meet demand throughout the city. Recent <br /> federal regulatory requirements require that certain facilities meet more stringent security <br /> 21 -1 <br />
