John Deere backhoes have standardized operating controls which allows Public <br />Utilities' crews to perform work on a variety of projects without the need to become familiarized <br />and proficient in the operation of other types of backhoes; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, training Public Utilities' personnel to operate one standardized type of backhoe <br />should result in Public Utilities' personnel who are better qualified to operate backhoes, and <br />thereby minimize the likelihood of backhoe related accidents and injuries; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS. standardizing Public Utilities' backhoe equipment should result in cost and time <br />efficiencies when procuring and stocking spare parts; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS. the purchase price of John Deere backhoes is approximately $3.000 more per unit <br />than other manulhcturers, equaling approximately $250.00 per year over the 12-year estimated life <br />of the equipment: and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, standardizing Public Utilities' backhoe equipment should result in savings <br /> <br />associated with reduced 10st time due to accidents and reduced maintenance costs and downtime. <br /> <br />and should off'set the additional cost of purchasing John Deere backhoes: and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS. the Water Utility's Safety Committee unanimously recommended standardizing <br />the purchase of John Deere backhoes at its November, 1999 meeting: and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the funds needed ibr the purchase of three John Deere backhoes are available in <br /> <br />City Attorney's ()ffice <br />39{}11 Main Street <br />Riverside.
