AND 3:00 P.M. ON <br /> SCHOOL DAYS UNTIL JUNE 16, 1984, SUBJECT TO <br /> CERTAIN CONDITIONS. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS Section 21102 of the California Vehicle Code <br />provides that local authorities may adopt rules and regulations <br />by resolution closing to vehicular traffic that portion of any <br />street or highway crossing or dividing any school ground or <br />grounds when in the opinion of the legislative body having <br />jurisdiction such closing is necessary for the protection of <br />persons attending such school or school grounds; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS Section 21102 of the California Vehicle Code <br />further provides that such closing to vehicular traffic may be <br />limited to such hours and days as the legislative body may <br />specify, provided that no such resolution shall be effective <br />until appropriate signs giving notice of such closing are posted <br />along the street or highway affected; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the Longfellow School operated by the Riverside <br />Unified School District and located in the City of Riverside is <br />crossed by Seventh Street so that the school buildings are <br />located on the north side of Seventh Street and the major play- <br />ground is located on the south side; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the Riverside Unified School District of Riverside <br />County has requested that Seventh Street within the City of <br />Riverside be closed to vehicular traffic between Eucalyptus and <br />Franklin Streets during school hours to protect the students <br />attending Longfellow School; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the approximately 700 Longfellow School children <br />make a total of over 2,000 crossings of Seventh Street on an <br />average school day; and <br /> <br /> <br />
