CW4N' Of � � City Council Memorandum City 0"Ar•ts & Innovation TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: March 20, 2012 FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT ITEM NO: 35 WARDS: 1 SUBJECT: BID NO. 7022 – MAPLEWOOD PLACE AND BRENTWOOD AVENUE SEWER REPLACEMENT — CONTRACT AWARD ISSUE The issue for City Council consideration is award of a construction contract to replace sewer mains under Maplewood Place and Brentwood Avenue from Brockton Avenue to Palm Avenue (Project). RECOMMENDATION That the City Council award a construction contract for Bid No. 7022 – Maplewood Place and Brentwood Avenue sewer replacement project to Hemet Mfg. Co., Inc. dba Genesis Construction, located in Hemet, California, in the amount of $551,777. BACKGROUND The project will replace sewer mains damaged by root intrusion under Maplewood Place and Brentwood Avenue from Brockton Avenue to Palm Avenue (Exhibit A). This project includes constructing new sewer manholes, cleanouts and laterals within public right of way. Maplewood Place and Brentwood Avenue will be resurfaced within the limits of the project at completion of sewer improvements. On February 28, 2012, twelve bids were received for the construction of this project as summarized in the attached bid award recommendation. The lowest responsive bid is from Hemet Mfg. Co., Inc. dba Genesis Construction, in the amount of $551,777, which is 55% under the Engineer's estimate. The Purchasing Services Manager concurs with the recommendation above. FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact to the General Fund. The estimated total cost of the project is $750,000 including design, construction, construction engineering and contingencies. There are sufficient funds available in Public Works Account No. 9828023 - 440301 to award the contract and complete the project. 35 -1
