€I OF K IVER , SIDE City Council Memorandum 0r� 4 flits & innovation TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: March 20, 2012 FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT ITEM NO: 34 WARD: 2 SUBJECT: DENTON STREET & IRIS STREET ESTABLISHMENT OF TIMED NO PARKING ZONES — RESOLUTION ISSUE The issue for City Council consideration is establishment of timed No Parking zones on designated segments of Denton and Iris Streets to facilitate trash pickup. RECOMMENDATIONS That the City Council: 1. Adopt a resolution to: a. Establish a "No Parking Between the Hours of 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Fridays" zone on the south side of Denton Street from Victoria Avenue to Howard Avenue; b. Establish a "No Parking Between the Hours of 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Fridays" zone on the south side of Iris Street from Victoria Avenue to Park Avenue; and 2. Authorize and direct the Traffic Engineer to revise the specific pages of the Master Parking Schedule necessary to incorporate the amendment and distribute the revised pages to the appropriate personnel with directions to delete the original pages and insert the revised pages in the appropriate tables. COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION On February 1, 2012, the Parking, Traffic and Streets (PT &S) Commission reviewed this matter; 11 of 14 members were present. The Commission voted unanimously to recommend establishment of the timed No Parking zones with a modification to the start time from the proposed 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and end time from proposed 10:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. to address resident concerns expressed at the meeting by allowing parking until typical morning commute time. BACKGROUND The Public Works Department received a request from the Solid Waste Division to restrict parking on the south sides of designated segments of Denton and Iris Streets to facilitate trash pickup. 34 -1
