U� City Council Memorandum <br />City 4"Arts & Innovation <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: March 20, 2012 <br />FROM: FIRE DEPARTMENT ITEM NO: 28 <br />WARDS: ALL <br />SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF RIVERSIDE ROTARY FOUNDATION DONATION TO <br />SUPPORT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT'S FILE OF LIFE PROGRAM — <br />SUPPLEMENTAL APPROPRIATION <br />ISSUE: <br />The issue for City Council consideration is whether to accept a donation from Riverside Rotary <br />Foundation in the amount of $1,000 to support the Fire Department's File of Life program. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS <br />That the City Council: <br />1. Authorize the acceptance of a $1,000 donation from the Riverside Rotary Foundation; <br />2. Authorize a supplemental appropriation in the amount of $1,000 to Miscellaneous Fire <br />Receipts Account No. 0000101- 341220 and appropriate expenditures in the same amount <br />to Fire Training /Special Departmental Supplies Account No. 3520000 - 426800; and <br />3. Direct the Fire Chief to send a letter of appreciation to the Riverside Rotary Foundation. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The City of Riverside Fire Department's File of Life program helps emergency medical response <br />personnel rapidly obtain patient medical information, including any prescribed medications. <br />Program participants are given a red magnetic pocket file containing a medical information card <br />which is then filled out and placed on the refrigerator door for easy access during a medical <br />emergency. File of Life is designed to assist senior citizens, individuals living alone and those <br />with chronic health conditions. Over the past ten years, the Fire Department has distributed <br />approximately 5,000 File of Life program kits to residents. <br />Through the generosity of the Riverside Rotary Foundation, their donation of $1,000 will provide <br />approximately 1,000 kits for distribution this year. File of Life kits are available at all 14 City fire <br />stations and are carried on all Fire emergency response vehicles. <br />28 -1 <br />
