City Council Memorandum TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCILDATE: December 13, 2011 FROM: POLICE DEPARTMENT ITEM NO: WARD: ALL SUBJECT: CITY OF RIVERSIDE OFFICIAL POLICE TOW SERVICE AGREEMENT EXTENSION ISSUE: The issue presented for council action is whether to approve a one year extension of the current tow truck service agreement with thirteen (13) area tow companies through December 31, 2012. RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council approve and authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to execute a one year extension for the Official Police Tow Service Agreements between the City of Riverside and the 13 tow companies listed below to extend the term of agreements through December 31, 2012. BACKGROUND: In accordance with the provisions contained in Chapter 5.15 of the Riverside Municipal Code, “Establishment and Regulation of Official Police Tow Service in the City of Riverside”, representatives of the Police Department negotiated terms and conditions with the thirteen (13) tow companies listed below that have been providing tow service for the Police Department: Bauman’s Towing Certified Towing Double A Towing Exclusive Towing Inland Towing Patriot Towing Master Mechanic Towing Victoria Towing Pepe’s Towing Sierra Towing Royal Towing Triple L Towing Tippy’s Towing The terms of the amended agreement were approved by the City Council in February of 2008 and authorized contracted services with the Official Police Tow Service (OPTS) providers through December 31, 2010. The agreement further authorized two (2), one (1) year extensions thereafter, in one (1) year increments. These companies have been providing good service to the Police Department and therefore, the
