The overarching goal is to be recognized as the "Youth
Sports Center of the Inland Empire ".
The City of Riverside has expanded and improved youth sports facilities, as have our two school
districts. It is time to expand and improve access and excellence in youth sports, focusing not only
on performance but also on academics and building community.
Therefore, I appointed a Task Force on Youth Sports: Access & Excellence Forum. The attached
Report is the summary statement of their good work.
RECOMMENDATIONS
That the City Council:
1. Receive and file this report.
2. Endorse an ongoing Mayor's Forum on Youth Sports: Access & Excellence Forum.
BACKGROUND
Earlier this summer, I called together, with Councilmember Rusty Bailey, a forum to explore healthy
and fun lifestyles under the initiative of being "Fresh, Fit, and Fun ". Riverside is now framing many
activities by this vision, and success in youth sports is an important part of the vision.
Riverside competes for residents, and we want to be a community of choice. One important middle
class marker is access and excellence in youth sports.
11 -1
